Length of the route: 600 meters
Length of the tour: 60 minutes

The Koněpruské Caves are situated in Central Bohemia, 7 kilometers south of Beroun, in the middle of the Bohemian Karst nature reserve, not far from Křivoklát and Karlštejn castles. The caves were discovered in 1950 and made accessible to the public in 1959. The caves are formed of 400-million-year-old Devonian limestone rock, consisting of three levels to be found 70 meters below ground level, and are more than 2 kilometers long. The accessible area is about 590 meters long and the sightseeing tour lasts one hour. In the 15th century, the top level housed a secret workshop for counterfeiters. The caves are unique in their opal-bearing decorations, as well as numerous paleontological excavations, documenting natural development over the past 1.5 million years.
