The Punkva Caves can be found in Pustý Žleb, about 1 kilometer from the Skalní mlýn information center. The caves were discovered between 1909 and 1933 by Professor Absolon’s work group. Visitors walk through mighty underground spaces and corridors decorated with stalactites and stalagmites, as far as the bottom of the world-famous Macocha Abyss. The abyss is 138.7 meters deep, with fascinating ground dimensions: 174 x 76 meters. The walking tour is followed by a motorboat ride along the Punkva underground river. The ride includes a visit to the Masaryk Dome, one of the most beautiful caves in the Moravian Karst. The Punkva Caves are an extension of the longest cave system in the Czech Republic, the Amateur Cave, with corridors of more than 35 kilometers in length.
