Length of the tour: 40 minutes
The Zbraš Aragonite Caves are located in the picturesque valley of the Bečva River near the spa in Teplice nad Bečvou. This is a unique cave system of European importance that was created by the concurrent effects of atmospheric and warm mineral waters rising from great depths through the limestone. The unique decoration is formed by the mineral aragonite and the geyser stalagmites and globular sinter crust, which is reminiscent of doughnuts. The lowest levels of the caves are permanently filled with carbon dioxide. They are the warmest caves in the Czech Republic, with a constant annual temperature of 14°C. They were discovered in 1912 and have been open to the public since 1926. The deepest abyss in the Czech Republic can be found not far from the caves, the Hranice Abyss. The bottom of this abyss has not yet been reached. The dry area can be freely viewed and has a depth of 69.5 meters. The largest depth measured but not yet verified is 329.5 meters, the largest verified depth of the abyss is 274.5. The real depth could be about 700 meters.
