Krkonoše National Park (KRNAP)
KRNAP is one of the most important protected landscape areas in the Czech Republic and at the same time is one of the biggest parks in Europe.
Location: The Krkonoše National Park (KRNAP) extends over the northeast part of Bohemia along the Polish border. The territory belongs to the Krkonoše-Jeseníky (Sudeten) system in terms of the Bohemian highlands.
Krkonoše is a Hercynian mountain range formed approximately 600 million years ago. It significantly exceeds the higher (alpine) tree line, which is around 1,250 meters above sea level. The high mountain characteristics of the natural environment in the Krkonoše ridge emphasize and form a harsh climate with very cold northern and northwestern winds, low air temperatures and a high amount of atmospheric precipitation.
Despite its small area, the Krkonoše mountain range abounds in unusual flora and in the context of other Hercynian mountain ranges also has an especially important position. The diversity of plant associations with the presence of many levels of vegetation from submontane to alpine also sets the conditions for the composition of fauna in the Krkonoše.
