Jindřichův Hradec
Jindřichův Hradec has developed on the historical border between Bohemia, Moravia and Austria. The most significant sight of the town is the third-largest chateau complex in the Czech Republic: a unique renaissance chateau including a Gothic palace with valuable Gothic paintings, and a Rondel, which, thanks to its perfect acoustics, serves as a venue for numerous concerts. In the center of the town the municipal housing has mainly an Empire appearance from the period after the devastating fire in 1801.
The tower of the Church of Our Lady dominates the town. The 15th meridian leads through its corners. The building of the former Jesuit seminary (which is now a museum) houses the so-called Krýza´s crèche, the largest mechanical nativity scene in the world. Among the major sights are also the Church of St. John the Baptist, which has valuable frescoes, and a former monitory monastery. Important festivals of classic and folk music are held annually here (Concertino Praga, Folk Rose).
